Xinyi MRT Line: Open For Business

Getting around the Xinyi area is finally about to get a little bit easier, at least eventually. The Xinyi MRT Line is due to open this Sun (Nov. 24), connecting to the Danshui | 淡水 line (Red) and rolling straight from Main Station to 101.

One of the most anticipated lines ever added to Taipei’s Metro system, it will open up seven new stops along Xinyi Rd., and have transfer stations to all three other lines along the way. The new route is looking to take a load off of the Zhongxiao Line (Blue) and help city-goers better traverse the southern side of the city center, as well as hitting up some of the more popular destinations in Taipei.

The stations covered by the new line include:

Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall
Dongmen (永康街|Yongkang St.)
Daan Forest Park Daan
Xinyi Anhe
Taipei 101/World Trade Center
Xiangshan (Elephant Mt.)

Even better, the MRT will offer free rides for the first month while they work out all of the kinks and introduce it to commuters.

Don’t get too excited yet though. You can probably bet the line will be more crowded than usual for the first few months as people strive to be the first to test it out and, most likely, post about it on facebook. Plus we all know how much people here love to stand in lines!

Eventually, however, the new addition should make for a fantastic step forward with regards to Taipei’s transportation. Now let’s just hope the Taoyuan Airport line scandal will be resolved sometime this decade.

I came to Taiwan on a whim for an exchange program in university and I've pretty much been here ever since. I pretty much fell in love with TW at first sight and I take every chance I get to go out and explore. With a knack for creating things, a decent camera and some editing skills, I created TT to share Taiwan with others and connect people looking to do cool things. I'm always down to try something new and exciting, especially if it involves going fast, so send me a shout out and let's explore together.
