Open and running since 1957, DinTaiFung (鼎泰豐) has gone from a simple steamed dumpling shop to a world famous restaurant with locations in 10 countries. The restaurant serves some of the best cuisine in Taiwan and has been called one of the top-10 restaurants in the world by the New York Times, and even received a 1-star Michelin rating from the Hong Kong / Macau area.
DinTaiFung offers a complete range of traditional Chinese meat and vegetable dishes, as well as more local entrees like beef noodles.
Though there is nothing in particular that sets these dishes apart from other Taiwanese restaurants, they are all made very nicely and taste absolutely wonderful. However, the most famous dishes at DinTaiFung are its various kinds of steamed dumplings. Juicy, soft, and made fresh daily, the steamed dumplings explode with flavorful juices and meat when bitten into, and have a unique quality of flavor not often found elsewhere.
The bonus point about DinTaiFung, is the price range. Although the company has achieved world-class status and fame, you may be surprised to find that it won’t cost you any more than a normal Chinese restaurant.
DinTaiFung is always busy. No matter which location you go to and what time of the day, you are likely to find a line and a sizable wait-time. Once inside, you will see that all DinTaiFung locations are kept clean and tables are cleared quickly. There are always lots of staff on hand and you’ll never have to wait long for service. In fact, at one point during our time there, we had three staff members waiting on our table alone.
There is nothing particularly interesting about the DinTaiFung restaurants themselves, other than the awesome food, but one nice feature at the Fuxing SOGO location is that you can watch the cooks wrap dumplings as you wait.
Currently, there are eight locations in Taiwan, all located within the greater Taipei area with the exception of the Taichung and Xinzhu branches:

DinTaiFung is one of the most popular restaurants in Taiwan for both tourists and locals alike. While there is nothing spectacularly unique about the restaurant, it does offers some of the best-quality Chinese cuisine around. Furthermore, you won’t find many steamed dumpling places as good as DinTaiFung. The prices are fair, the locations are convenient, and the the staff is helpful. In the end, DinTaiFung is a place everyone should go at least once.
